Day 1
First things first, exploring the City of Berlin. Camera in
hand and with one of my friends navigating us, we walked into the centre of
Berlin. It was strange how everything was so spaced out, having visited New
York last year, it is simply a mass of concrete towering over you, Berlin was
different. Lots of open air, large buildings and grassy plains. On the
contrary, it took us a long time to find anything and getting lost appeared to
be very easy. While we saw the sights, we ended up putting our feet up and
having a hot cup of coffee, away from the freezing temperatures outside.
We took a nice lesurly stroll past all of the government buildings, the Reichstag, past Berlin Fashion Week and the Brandenburg gates. We then ventured into town further and walked all the way to Alexanderplatz, to simply have a look at the TV tower. Which ended up to be hilarious, as it was too foggy to see it. That first day we must have walked miles! To finish our day off when walking back we found a cyclist and crriage who kindly drove us back to our hotel. It was a hilarious journey home and helped to make our day much more fun filled!
Auf wiedersehen/ Tschüss England!
One thing I cannot stand when you go abroad is the embarrasment of not being able to communicate in any other language other than English. So I always make a bit of an effort to learn a few phrases. Here I am a few hours before the flight researching some basic German Vocab. I remember quite alot from studying German at highschool, so I know the basics to get me by...
Thank you- Danke schön
Yes- Ja
No- Nein
See you soon- Bis bald
I would like a - Ich möchte gern ein
Please- Bitte
Do you speak english?- Sprechen Sie Englisch?
Good Day- Guten Tag
Excuse me- Entschuldigung
I come from- Ich komme aus
I dont speak German- Ich spreche kein Deutsch.
Where is- Wo ist
Anyway I guess that I should probably finish packing- this is the very first time that I have been able to close my suitcase when going away, so I think that means I can add a little bit more! I cannot travel light.
From me it's Auf Widersehen, See you in Berlin.

What to wear?!
One thing that I cannot stand, is packing. So here I am trying to create some outfit options for while I am away. While I need to keep looking professional I want to keep my own style in there, I'm opting for shirts and jumper combos, with Vans or Vintage ankle boots and Suede heels for the evening. Leather trousers, Leggings with a leather strip and highwaisted black skinny jeans will be mixed with the rest of my monochrome wardrobe. I should probably consider investing in some colour sometime soon. I just prefer most things in life in Black & White.
Gold jewelry adds accents and hints of colour, along side my khaki bobble hat and a navy blue cable knit jumper. I'm keeping it clean and simple.

Excited Feeling
I have that excited feeling! Cannot wait to get away and see the sights of Berlin. While I want to visit as many historical places as possible, I also want to make sure I get the most out of these tradeshows; I want to focus primarily on work and making some connections while I'm there!
My To-Do List In Berlin
Visit Alexanderplatz and see the TV tower.
Hit Mitte and the shops/cafes.
Visit Tacheles.
See the Berlin Wall.
Visit the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag.
Go Shopping and make a trip to Weekday on Friedrichstrasse.
Eat lots of tasty German Cuisine.
Go to either Cookies, Asphalt Club, Watergate or Ritter Butzke - as reccommended by the Bread & Butter app.
Attend the Bread & Butter opening Party.
Visit the three tradeshows.
Visit galleries Lafayette and KaDeWe.
Visit Do You Read Me and feed my magazine obsession.
Try and get tickets for Berlin Fashion Week.
Jewish Memorial.
I know this list is pretty long and I am guessing that if I intend on doing all of these things I may have to comprimise my time at the Tradeshows, but I am here to work as well as have fun. I am going to represent my magazine and see what connections I can make. If I get the chance to attend any other events while I am out there I am going to go for it. Seize the day. I dont want to plan too much as I want to really enjoy this trip and take each day as it comes.

Trade shows
One of the key reasons for the trip to Berlin this January is to visit the Trade shows. I am attending them under my own magazine of which is currently underway- ROCK+ROGUE. It began with my own personal blog and is slowly evolving into a new publication, it will be released later in the year.
The three tradeshows that I am attending are Bread and Butter, Premium and Bright. Bright is the show that I am most looking forward to, as it is focused on skate brands- this is the industry I would most like to venture into, therefore this is very exciting. The tradeshows look amazing, so innovative and forward thinking; its interesting how they have converged networking, events and business into one. I am looking forward to uncovering some new and exciting creative ideas- it is very inspiring looking at how these tradeshows function, simply cannot wait to get there now.
